How are they lasting?

30 Years Old                          13.0% Alcohol
Imported Bottle                    55mm Cork

Our Second Grand Merlot

  • Tasted July 2016
  • Still brick red but with tawny tones at the rim

  • Moderate lift with forest floor aromas; some fruit; slight five spice oak, touch of pink mushroom and ferns
  • Quite fresh after one and a half hours decant
  • Very much alive, but so very elegant with such low alcohol

  • At 13 baume it is just what is expected of a Chateau wine
  • Fruit – crisp acid – soft tannins
  • Lovely combination – no edges, touch briary but so lively and long flavoured

  • An absolute joy to see where we started
  • Had no idea when to pick Merlot in Eden Valley, but had to start gently, so the low alcohol
  • A beautiful wine from a different era
  • Still so rewarding; interesting, and rewarding
  • “A fine tune played on an old vinous violin”
  • The later years from 1992 onwards saw riper fruit and higher alcohols (15% maximum) so these wines are bigger in all ways and offer fuller reward
